The grower selects a “true to type” plant for propagation by Tissue Culture. From this mature elite plant, a piece is selected, which is taken and initiated in Tissue Culture. This can be an apical or axillary bud or even a rhizome. The main goal at this stage is to get a part of the plant, sterile and growing on the selected growing medium (sterile agar). Only a very small part of one plant is needed to obtain the base for the rapid multiplication of genetically identical progeny.
